Losing weight can be hard. We have all heard the phrase - 'a minute on the lips, a lifetime on the hips'. There are many negative side effects of obesity which some are calling an epidemic, including heart disease, cerebrovascular disease, and joint problems, to name a few. More information has been made available about this, and people are making a more conscious effort to battle to lose weight, they make resolutions on New Year's day, and throughout the year as well.

If someone cuts certain types of food completely out of the diet, it can have negative effects due to missing nutrients. Dieticians are good at helping someone choose the diet that is best for them to lose weight in a healthy way.

Simple steps include eating more fruit and vegetable, cutting down on red meat and fried foods and making sure to eat oily fish.

The Exercise Aspect

Exercise burns calories - there is no doubt about that. Cardiovascular exercise in particular burns calories fast, depleting glycogen stores and burning subcutaneous fat as well. Insulin resistance development and cardiovascular disease is known to be more prevalent in those who carry excess weight in their mid sections. By consuming a diet that is low in calories and performing exercise that burns more calories than is consumed everyday is what helps one lose weight.

Commitment and hard work are needed to exercise regularly. It is always best to exercise with a partner who will motivate you and make you work harder. Exercises such as jogging, brisk walks, cycling, cross training and even swimming increase the heart rate and build cardiovascular fitness while burning fat.

Slimming clubs also have programmes and these days even diet meals are delivered home to help substitute regular meals, making dieting really easy. There is no excuse!
